Mr. James D. "J.D." Benton, husband of the late Blanche Nettles Benton, passed away Monday evening, October 24, 2022 at the Colleton Medical Center in Walterboro.  He was 92.

Mr. Benton was born in Colleton County March 6, 1930 a son of the late James Duffie Benton and Sinie Catherine Bishop Benton.  He was a United States Army veteran of the Korean War, and spent his professional career as a petroleum engineer in Beaufort, Guam, and the Philippines.  Mr. Benton was an active member of Pine Grove Baptist Church, where he formerly served as a Deacon.  He enjoyed spending time outdoors on his tractor, and was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.

He is survived by his daughter Cathy Rodriguez and her husband Roger, of Summerville, and by his three grandchildren Nina, Jesse and Leyla.  He leaves behind his sister Betty Jean Hiers, and in addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a son, Duffie Benton.

Funeral services will be held Friday morning, October 28, 2022 at 11:00 at Pine Grove Baptist Church, with burial following in the church cemetery.  The family will receive friends beginning at 10:00 in the church sanctuary.  Parker-Rhoden Funeral Home, 117 Paul Street in Walterboro is in charge of arrangements.
