WALTERBORO: Mrs. Jessie Ruth Odom Craven, wife of the late Judson Craven, passed away late Tuesday night at the hospice of Charleston Hospice Center in Mt. Pleasant. She was 79.

Mrs. Craven was born in Wadesboro, NC December 13, 1935 a daughter of the late Luther Lemuel Odom and Minnie Allred Odom. A retired employee of Lucas Electric, she loved to bake and share her creations with family and friends. She was a member of the Providence United Methodist Church, where she served as church treasurer and communion steward for many years. She also attended Refuge Church in Walterboro. Although she was never blessed with children, Mrs. Craven had many nieces and nephews who loved her dearly.


She is survived by her sister Barbara Odom Jensen of Ft. Meyers, FL. She has a brother-in-law, Wallace Craven and his wife Jackie of Round O, and a sister-in-law Aileen Odum of Greenville. In addition to her husband Judson, she was preceded in death by five brothers and two sisters. She leaves behind many dear friends from throughout her life.

Funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon at 3:00 in the chapel of Parker-Rhoden Funeral Home, with burial following in the Bedon Baptist Church Cemetery. Rev. Craig Crosby will officiate, and the family will receive friends beginning at 2:00 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to either Providence United Methodist Church c/o Teresa Roberson, 13909 Augusta Highway, Round O, SC 29474, or to Refuge Church, P.O.B. 751, Walterboro, SC 29488.

The family wishes to express their love and appreciation to Roper Hospital and to Hospice of Charleston for the care given to Mrs. Craven during her illness.
