EDISTO BEACH:  Jimmy Earl Barnhill, age 84, was born on July 21, 1941, in Johnsonville, South Carolina, and passed away peacefully on March 31, 2026.

Jimmy was married for 52 years to the love of his life, Jeannie Mims Barnhill, who preceded him in death in 2012. Though he lived in several places throughout his life, he always considered Edisto Beach his true home.

He was also preceded in death by his parents, Gernie Phillip Barnhill and Rose Nell Powell Barnhill; his sister, Catherine Cannon; and his brother, David Barnhill.

He is survived by his daughters, Rhondie Barnhill Japarks (Anthony Japarks), Donna Baratta (John Baratta), Phyllis McElveen and Della Jean "DJ" Barnhill (Anne Lacy). He also leaves behind a loving legacy through his grandchildren and their families: Della Thigpen (Frances and Sally), Kathleen Hogue, Bridget Small (Isaac) , Brandon Baratta (Brittany, Adriana and Luke), Devon Wahl (Evan, Blakely and Graham), Louis McElveen (Sam and George), William McElveen (Lauren), Capers McElveen, and Rivers McElveen.

In 1981, Jimmy built the home he and Jeannie shared and firmly planted his roots in the Edisto community. Before being diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease, he was known for his warm, social nature and his active involvement in the community. He was a devoted member of The Presbyterian Church on Edisto Island, the Edisto Island Lions Club, The Codgers, the Edisto Island Home Mission Team, and the Botany Bay "Grunts."

Jimmy found great joy in fishing, carpentry, hunting, and gardening—passions that reflected his love for the outdoors and working with his hands. He was also known to be a talented chef in the kitchen, master of a grill and shagger on the dance floor.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 7, 2026, at 11:00 A.M. at The Presbyterian Church on Edisto Island, with burial following in the church cemetery.  The family will receive friends during a time of reflection, and celebration of his life, immediately following the committal, at the Edisto Island Yacht Club.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Jimmy's memory may be made to The Presbyterian Church on Edisto Island or The Edisto Island Home Mission Team.  Parker-Rhoden Funeral home of Walterboro is assisting the family with arrangements.
