WALTERBORO: Mrs. Jo Ann Mizell Murdaugh, wife of Kenneth "Kenny" Murdaugh Sr., passed away Thursday morning at the Colleton Medical Center in Walterboro. She was 70.
Jo Ann was born in St. George August 20, 1946 a daughter of the late Joseph "Joe" Mizell and Annie Savage Mizell. She owned and operated Jo Anne's Styling and Tanning Salon on Mt. Carmel Road in Walterboro for over forty-six years. She was a member of the North Walterboro Baptist Church, loved to "out-fish" her husband, and was always known as a "daddy's girl".
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her son Joseph P. "Joey" Mangum (Phyllis), and by her daughter Gina D. Mangum, both of Walterboro. She has three step-children: Kenny Murdaugh Jr. (Michelle), Danny Murdaugh, and Amanda Murdaugh, all of Walterboro. She has one brother, Raymond Mizell (Jane) of Aiken, fourteen grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her siblings Joseph P. Mizell and Doretha M. "Dot" Risher. Jo Ann also leaves behind her beloved Chihuahua "Tebow".
Funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon at 2:00 in the Chapel of Parker-Rhoden Funeral Home, with burial following in the St. George Cemetery. Rev. Godfrey Ritter and Rev. Ricky Crosby will officiate. The family will receive friends Saturday evening from 6-8 PM at the funeral home.
