WALTERBORO : Mr. John William Nettles passed away in Charleston County Saturday morning after a brief illness. He was 65.
John was born in Walterboro August 30, 1952 a son of the late William B. and Frances N. Nettles. He was a graduate of Walterboro High School and Clemson University. He worked for 39 years as an appraiser for Ag South Farm Credit. John was a lifetime member of Bedon Baptist Church, and he participated as a Deacon and head usher, and was actively involved in the supervision of the church cemetery. Each year before Memorial Day, he would replace the flags on every veteran's grave. He was a former member of the Walterboro Jaycees, and was an active member of the Walterboro Elks Lodge. He possessed an outgoing personality and a wonderful sense of humor, which made him a friend to all he met.
He is survived by his children: Dr. Meredith D'Agostino (Brandon) of Mount Pleasant, and Matthew Nettles of Walterboro. There are three grandchildren: Logan, Mary Catherine, and Emerson D'Agostino. John is survived by two sisters, Frances A. Mack and Marjorie R. Nettles. He was preceded in death by his sister Catherine M. Nettles, and by his favorite aunts and uncles, Pearl and Howell Nettles and Marjorie and Chet Orrill.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon at 3:00 in the Bedon Baptist Church, with burial following in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends beginning at 1:30 in the church sanctuary. Memorials may be made in his name to The Roland Marchant Christmas Project, c/o The Colleton Baptist Association, P.O.B. 591, Walterboro, SC 29488. Parker-Rhoden Funeral Home, 117 Paul Street in Walterboro, is in charge of arrangements.
