WALTERBORO:     Mr. Johnny Harry Craven, husband of Juel Melfi Craven, passed away peacefully early Tuesday morning, May 26, 2026 at his home near Walterboro under hospice care, with his family by his side.  He was 88.

Mr. Craven was born in Colleton County March 24, 1938, a son of the late Harry and Cynee Craven Craven.  After the death of his mother at a young age, his father remarried Marie Drawdy, and she lovingly cared for Johnny from the age of 2, and throughout his childhood and teenage years, until he became an adult.  He worked at both Bluff and Lavington Plantations, he was a lineman with SCE&G, and he was later employed with Wildwood Nursery, SCDOT, Colleton County, and Coberg Dairy.  Mr. Craven was an active member of Great Swamp Baptist Church, where he was a Deacon, and had served many times as Chairman of Deacons.  He was an avid outdoorsman who loved horses, hunting, and crabbing.  One of his favorite passtimes was watching westerns…especially those with his favorite cowboy…John Wayne.  He will truly be missed.

In addition to his beloved wife, he is survived by his children Bobby Craven (Robin), Susie Craven Davis, Julie Craven Shannon (Dave), and Wayne Craven (Teresa). He leaves behind his brother Larry Craven (T.C.).  There are 12 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother David Craven, and by his son-in-law Jerald Davis.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 28, 2026 at 12:00 at Great Swamp Baptist Church, with burial following in the church cemetery.  The family will receive friends beginning at 11:00 in the church sanctuary.  Parker-Rhoden Funeral Home, 117 Paul Street in Walterboro is in charge of arrangements.
