EDISTO ISLAND – Mr. Jon Patrick Liles, husband of the late Jo Ann Rainey Liles, passed away in the early morning hours of Thursday, May 21, 2026, at Magnolias of Walterboro. He was 88 years old.

Born on June 2, 1937, Jon was the son of the late Virgil Lee Liles and Ocie Martin Liles.

Jon was a graduate of both the University of Georgia and Yale University. He spent his career as a forester, operating his own company, Liles Forest Management in Walterboro. An accomplished woodworker, he built fine furniture and constructed multiple homes over his lifetime, including his residence on Edisto Island.

Jon was a man of quiet faith who was actively involved in his community. He helped build the United Methodist Church on Edisto Island and volunteered at Jane Edwards Elementary School, where his dedication to helping students improve their reading earned him Volunteer of the Year honors.

He was preceded in death three years ago by his beloved wife, Jo Ann, who was his partner in business, home construction, and travel adventures. He was also preceded in death by his loyal dog, Jessie.

Jon is survived by his sons, Jack Liles (Natalie) and Dan Liles (Trudy), three grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

The family will hold a private graveside memorial service at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Coastal Community Foundation or St. Jude's Children's Hospital. Arrangements are being handled by Parker-Rhoden Funeral Home.
