WALTERBORO: Joseph Ellis "Joey" Carson III passed away Sunday at his home after an extended illness. He was 57.
Joey was born in Greenville, SC September 8, 1958 a son of the late Joseph E. Carson Jr. and Jennie Colson Carson. He spent the majority of his working career in the welding industry, but later in life was a commercial truck driver. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, was an avid motorcycle enthusiast, and was of the Baptist faith.
He is survived by his children: Joseph Ellis "Joel" Carson IV of Dallas, Jacob Edwin "Jake" Carson of Columbia, Coleman Louis Carson of Spartanburg, and Carla Carson Turner, also of Spartanburg. He has two sisters, Cheryl Carson Padgett of Austin, TX and Bonnie Carson Crosby of Walterboro. Joey leaves behind two grandchildren, Kaylee Elizabeth Turner and Judah Andrew Turner, and a brother-in-law, Wayne Varnadoe. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Linda Carson Bayne and Donna Carson Varnadoe.
The family will receive friends during a time of visitation and remembrance Thursday evening from 6-8 PM at Parker-Rhoden Funeral Home of Walterboro, which is in charge of arrangements.
