COTTAGEVILLE: Joseph Modica, husband of Florence Kessler Modica, passed away Saturday at his home. He was 81.

Mr. Modica was born in Brooklyn, NY February 25, 1936 a son of the late Joseph and Fanny Mucherino Modica. He was a retired employee with the South Carolina Department of Corrections, and was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church, where he was actively involved with the Knights of Columbus.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children: Florence and Jenny Modica, Debbie Ferland, and William Modica, all of Cottageville, and Joseph Modica Jr. of James Island. There are three sisters: Marie Silverstein, Rosary Lemoine, and Terry Modica. Mr. Modica leaves behind eleven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.


A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday afternoon at 2:00 in the St. Anthony Catholic Church. The family will receive friends there beginning at 12:30. The Rite of Committal will follow the service on the family property in Cottageville. Parker-Rhoden Funeral Home of Walterboro is in charge of arrangements.
