Obituary

WALTERBORO: Joyce Penny Calhoun passed away unexpectedly Thursday evening in Charleston. She was 57.

Penny was born in Twin City, GA February 25, 1958 a daughter of the late George Washington Calhoun and Lula Jarrell Calhoun. She was a 1976 graduate of the Emanuel County Institute and was employed for over thirteen years with Dayco Manufacturing in Walterboro. She attended the Church of God, and her greatest joy in life was her children and her grandchildren.

She is survived by two sons, Derrick Jones of Islandton and Joshua Jones of Ruffin. She has eight siblings: Roy and Wesley Calhoun of Portal, GA, Caroline Neely of Millen, GA, Nancy Davis of Collins Lake, GA, Betty Biggers and Dorothy "Dot" Cowart of Metter, GA, Jean Hendrix of Independence, KY, and Sandra Mullins of Sylvania, GA. She leaves behind two sisters-in-law, Brenda Calhoun of Portal, GA and Kitty Calhoun of Statesboro, GA. There are two grandchildren, Emily Grayce Jones and Andrew Jeffery Jones, as well as a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Andy, Joe and George Calhoun Jr., one sister, Catherine C. Davis, and a grandson Jacob Derrick Jones.


Funeral services will be held Thursday morning at 11:00 in the Chapel of Parker-Rhoden Funeral Home, with burial following in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6-8 PM at the funeral home.
