WALTERBORO: Mrs. Joyce Neal Gentry, widow of the late James D. Gentry, passed away Thursday afternoon, October 6, 2022 at The Village of Summerville.  She was 88.

Joyce was born in Colleton County February 5, 1934 a daughter of the late John Thomas Neal and Crystal Padgett Neal.  For many years she was the office manager for Judge Perry Buckner, and later for the Colleton County Senior Citizens.  She touched the lives of countless students as a substitute teacher in the local school system, and was an active member of Bethel United Methodist Church in Walterboro, where she served in the past as the church bookkeeper.

Joyce is survived by her sons James D. Gentry Jr. and J. Neal Gentry, and also by a niece Sally Neal.  In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by her brother and his wife, John Thomas Neal Jr. and Vera McMillan Neal.

Graveside funeral services will be held Tuesday morning, October 11, 2022 at 11:00 at Live Oak Cemetery.  The family will receive friends immediately following the service.  Parker-Rhoden Funeral Home, 117 Paul Street in Walterboro is in charge of arrangements.
