WALTERBORO: Mrs. Juanita Saulisbury Muckenfuss Calvert, wife of both the late Clifton Lamar Muckenfuss Sr., and the late Albert Lee Calvert, passed away Wednesday evening, December 11, 2024 at Trident Medical Center in Charleston at the age of 95. She was surrounded by her loving family.
Mrs. Calvert was the daughter of the late Curtis and Mary Jane Sweatman Saulisbury. Juanita was a long time member of the First Baptist Church of Walterboro, and as long as her health permitted, she was a very active member of the Miriam Clark Sunday School Class. She worked with the Colleton County School System until her retirement in 1986.
Juanita loved cooking and providing for her family, and she enjoyed watching hummingbirds and butterflies. Her family considered her strength and perseverance over the years to be the force that guided and shaped them, and she was a true inspiration to them all. She loved the Lord, listening to old hymns, and reading her daily devotionals.
Juanita is survived by her daughter, Mary Anne Asbelle, by a son, Ronald Muckenfuss, by a step-daughter Wanda Calvert Evering, and by a daughter-in-law Eleanor Muckenfuss. She is also survived by three grandsons: Trey Asbelle (Chessie), Clifton Muckenfuss III (MaryAnn), and Shaun Padgett (Chancey). There are six great-grandchildren: Kristen Asbelle, Chase, Cody and Cameron Muckenfuss, and Payton and Madisyn Padgett. There is a host of nieces, nephews and extended family.
In August of 2023, Juanita was predeceased by her son Clifton Lamar "Muck" Muckenfuss Jr. She was the last of six children and was preceded in death by her siblings: Trudy Rhodes, Clara Murray, Hazel Kirby, Louise Varner, and Curtis Saulisbury Jr.
Funeral services will be held Monday afternoon, December 16, 2024 at 1:00 in the Chapel of Parker-Rhoden Funeral Home, with burial following in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.
