WALTERBORO:     Mrs. Julie Speights Hewett, wife of Douglas Lamar Hewett, passed away Wednesday afternoon, May 13, 2026 at the Colleton Medical Center in Walterboro at the age of 73.

Julie was born in Charleston August 7, 1952 a daughter of the late James Raymond Speights Sr. and the late Susan Matilda Speights.  She spent her childhood and teenage years living on Johns Island, and as a young woman, married the love of her life.  She and Douglas spent 55 wonderful years together, and she was always by his side supporting him throughout his working career.  Julie cleaned homes, she was an excellent cook, and she made wedding cakes for countless families over the years.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her son Lamar Hewett, by her brother James Raymond Speights Jr. (Carolyn), and by her two canine companions, Buck and Allie.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother Alvah "Andy" Speights.  There is a host of extended family that loved her dearly.

The family will receive friends during a time of remembrance and visitation Wednesday evening, May 20, 2026 from 5:30 until 7:00 at Parker-Rhoden Funeral Home, 117 Paul Street in Walterboro.
