Obituary

ISLANDTON: Mrs. June Chapman Smoak, widow of Esmond Carrol Smoak, passed away Saturday afternoon at her home in Islandton under the care of hospice. She was 78.

Mrs. Smoak was born in Bolton Landing, NY April 11, 1938 a daughter of the late George Curtis Chapman and Nell Maranville Chapman. She graduated with honors from Bolton Central School, and was a retired employee of the Jasper County Board of Disabilities. She was a member of the Moselle Church of God, and was a devoted mother and grandmother.

She is survived by her children: Wendy Smoak of Islandton, Darcy Hughes (Mark) of Pickens, Dana Bostick (Steve) of Ravenel, Terry Lee (Freddie) of Sumter, and Richard Smoak of Columbia. There are seven grandchildren: Kevin and Matthew Smith, Heather and Brandon Reeves, Michael Smoak, Brandon and Travis Fuller, Casey Adams, and Olivia Crosby. She leaves behind many great-grandchildren, and a sister, Carol Bromley of South Glenns Falls, NY. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Lisa Hewitt.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday afternoon at 3:00 at the Moselle Church of God, with burial following on the family property in Islandton. The family will receive friends in the church sanctuary on the day of the funeral beginning at 1:30. Parker-Rhoden Funeral Home of Walterboro is in charge of arrangements.
