WALTERBORO: Mrs. Rebecca June Davis Thompson, wife of the late Gary Lee Thompson Sr., passed away Wednesday morning at the home of her son in Liberty, SC, under the care of Hospice, after an extended illness.

Mrs. Thompson was born in Cherokee County on November 24, 1925, the daughter of Edgar Erastus and Maybell Palmer Davis. She was a member of Easley Presbyterian Church and was a member of the Circle 5 group at Easley Presbyterian Church. She enjoyed going to church and especially enjoyed singing hymns, and often in the past she would attend choir rehearsals and sit with Brenda and sing along.

She graduated MUSC School of nursing and practiced as a registered nurse. She later became a homemaker raising her four children, and teaching Sunday School, working with the PTA, Girl Scout leader, and simply having her childrens' friends over, which she enjoyed so much. After they grew older, she went to work with the family business.
She Loved and enjoyed her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and enjoyed time with her family.

She is survived by a daughter, Brenda Dianne Thompson Hester of Edisto Island, Becky Boykin and her husband Newton of Edisto Island, and son, Gary Lee Thompson, Jr. and his wife Brenda Ross Thompson of Liberty SC. Her beloved grandchildren are Waylon Nelson Cain (Erin) of Edisto Island SC, Gary Lee Thompson, III (Jessica Cohen) of San Antonio TX, Daniel Ross Thompson (Heather) of Hazel Park MI, Rebecca Boykin of Edisto Island SC and Margaret Boykin of Greenville SC. Her great grandchildren are Micah Andrew Thompson of Hazel Park MI, Bennett Nelson Cain of Edisto Island, Felicity Rose Cohen-Thompson of San Antonio TX, and Shepherd Chapman Cain of Edisto Island.

Mrs. Thompson was preceded in death by her husband Gary Lee Thompson Sr., her daughter Jennifer June Thompson Padgett, and her granddaughter Crystal Celeste Thompson. The family would like to express special thanks to caregiver Faye Stancil and Pam Powell and Guardian Homecare and the nurses and staff at Southern Care Hospice.

A graveside service officiated by Rev. Richard Cushman at Live Oak Cemetery will be held on Saturday March 12 at 11:00 AM, with visitation to follow with family and friends at the cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer Association of SC. Parker-Rhoden Funeral home of Walterboro is in charge of arrangements.
