Katrena Smoak McCall, of Ruffin, South Carolina, passed away peacefully on July 5, 2026, at the age of 71.

Born August 28, 1954, in Walterboro, South Carolina, she was the daughter of the late Wightman Smoak and Mildred Smoak of Walterboro.

A graduate of Walterboro High School, Katrena attended Clemson University, where she met the love of her life, Carl McCall. They married and built a life together before returning to the Lowcountry, where they both worked alongside family at The Press and Standard. Through the newspaper, Katrena became well known throughout the community for her kindness, dedication, and friendly spirit.

She was a devoted wife, daughter, mother, and friend whose greatest joy came from her family. Katrena had a lifelong love of animals, especially horses, and her compassionate heart extended to every creature she encountered. She will be remembered for her gentle nature, generous spirit, and the many lives she touched through both her personal relationships and her years of service to the community.

In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Carl McCall; her sister, Maryanne Bunton; and her brother-in-law, Kenneth Bunton.

She is survived by her loving mother, Mildred Smoak of Walterboro; her daughter and son-in-law, Allyson McCall Puccinelli and Justin Puccinelli of Buellton, California; her adopted son, Samuel Plyler of Ruffin; her brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Jane Smoak of Edisto, South Carolina; along with numerous extended family members and dear friends who will cherish her memory.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 11, 2026, at Bethel Presbyterian Church. Family and friends are invited to gather to celebrate Katrena's life and the lasting impact she made on all who knew her.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Colleton County Animal Shelter in honor of Katrena's lifelong love of animals.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to all who have offered their prayers, love, and support during this difficult time.
