WALTERBORO: Mr. Keith M. Kinard, husband of the late Martha Sue Funderburk Kinard, passed away Saturday morning at his home in Walterboro. He was 84.

Mr. Kinard was born in Ruffin March 29, 1932 a son of the late Harry Danner Kinard and Juanita Hudson Kinard. He received both his undergraduate degree and his law degree from the University of South Carolina. He was a practicing attorney for many years, and was also chairman of the South Carolina Coastal Council during its existence. In 1963 he founded 1st Federal of South Carolina, F.S.B. in Walterboro and subsequently served as Chairman of the Board, President, and C.E.O. of the bank until his passing. He was an active member of the Walterboro community, and for 51 years he was a member of the USC Gamecock Club. He loved attending Football, Baseball, and Basketball games and supported the school in any way he could.

He is survived by his children: Emmy Zipperer and her husband Arnold of Walterboro, and Danny Kinard and his wife Melissa of Charleston. There are four grandchildren: Chris Strimple and husband Josh, Ros Zipperer and wife Carrie and their child Wills, Danner Gartlan and her child Finn, and Kallie Kinard. He also leaves behind his friend and companion Jeanette Rahn, his sister-in-law Miriam Kinard, dear family friends Michael and Susann Padgett, and as his devoted caregivers Alva "Cha Cha" Gadsen, and Elizabeth Forrester. He was preceded in death by his brother, Dr. Harold Kinard, and by his sister Louise Padgett.


Graveside funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon, February 7, 2017 at 1:00 in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens of Walterboro. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the cemetery. Parker-Rhoden Funeral Home of Walterboro is in charge of arrangements.
