Dr. Lance Austen Sims, 51, passed away peacefully on the evening of August 19, 2026 in the comfort of his home surrounded by family and close friends. We are saddened to inform of his passing, as we know the role he played in his community and all the lives he changed for the better.

Born April 24, 1975 in Savannah, Georgia, he was the son of Harold and Glenda Sims.  Savannah is also where he met his loving wife, Liz.  He graduated high school from Benedictine Military School.  He attended college at Georgia Southern University, received a Masters Degree from Georgia State University, and then acquired his Doctorate of Podiatric Medicine at Barry University in Miami, Florida. He spent ten years in the military, where he served for the United States Air National Guard. After his residency at the VA in Montgomery, Alabama, he moved to Walterboro with his family, where he ran his private practice for eighteen years. He was a devoted physician caring for the local and surrounding community.

Lance was always a loving husband, father, and most of all, an amazing friend. He never failed to share the same care and affection towards every person whose path he crossed, and he loved his family fiercely. Lance blessed everyone he was around with good times, fun love, and fixed feet. He loved to go out on the boat, fish, sing karaoke with his strobelight speaker, cook breakfast, and burn ribs on every holiday at Edisto Beach. Above all, he loved a good ski trip with his kids.  Whether you met Lance for the first time or had known him for 30 years, he was the most genuine person, and everyone was happy when he was around. Lance loved to tell a good story and add his Lance-isms to life.

Lance is survived by his wife, Liz; three children, Jackson, Carter, and Lacey; parents, Harold and Glenda of Savannah; in-law's Ed and Mitty Hughes of Walterboro; brother-in-law, Jeff (Wendy); nieces and nephews, Brook (Joey), Hunter, Sydney (Justin), Andrew, London, Rivers, Katherine, and Audrey. He was preceded in death by his sister, Heather, and brother-in-law, Andy. He also loved his "BC Boys," Walterboro Family of Friends, and many of his patients, as if they were part of the family.

The memorial service will be held at Bethel United Methodist Church at 11:00am on Saturday, August  22, 2026. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Bethel United Methodist Church.
