WALTERBORO: Lillian E. "Lill" Thornburg, passed away early Friday morning in Charleston under hospice care after a long and courageous battle with cancer. She was 65.


"Lill" was born May 24, 1951 in Sparta, Illinois a daughter of Frieda Hackman Vonderheide and the late Robert Vonderheide. Before her health declined,, she was an actively involved in the Walterboro community. For many years she was a devoted member of the Walterboro Elks Lodge #1988, where she assisted with countless activities, especially the distribution of dictionaries to area schoolchildren.


In addition to her mother of Florida, "Lill" is survived by her children: Dwayne Gene Lahnert of Charleston, Barbara Peters of Moulton, Iowa, Tresa Norris of Murfreesboro, TN, and Brenda Davis of Orangeburg. There is one brother, Gerald Vonderheide of Swansea, Illinois, nineteen grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son Bobby Lee Montgomery.

The family will receive friends during a time of visitation Monday evening beginning at 6:00 at Parker-Rhoden Funeral Home of Walterboro. Committal services will be held privately. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
