James Linwood Ackerman, Sr., 87, husband of the late Sandra Gardner Ackerman, passed away July 10, 2025.

A native of St. George, South Carolina, son of the late Clement and Virginia Jordan Ackerman, he was a graduate of St. George High School Class of 1956, a U.S. Air Force Veteran having served from 1956 until 1962, a 1964 graduate of Clemson University, and of the Methodist faith. He retired from Fluor Daniel having worked from 1966 until 2012. His work took him across the globe; one notable stop was in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia in 1979, where he and his family lived for four years.  Linwood was a friend to everyone, had a great sense of humor, and enjoyed working in the yard with his beloved dog, Luke.

He is survived by one son, Jay L. Ackerman of Atlanta, Georgia, and by one daughter, Holly Ackerman, of Inman, South Carolina.
He was predeceased by three brothers, Wallace Ackerman, Cutter Ackerman and Charles Ackerman.

Graveside services will be held Saturday morning, August 16, 2025 at 10:00 at the Cottageville Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Upstate Community Hospice, 260 Fairwinds Drive, Landrum, SC 29356 or Foothills Humane Society, P.O. 985, Columbus, NC 28722.
