WALTERBORO : Charles Madison Utsey, II, 33, passed away unexpectedly Saturday, November 29, 2025 in Walterboro, SC. His sudden loss leaves a tremendous void in the lives of those who loved him, especially his beloved fiancé, Mandy McLaine, and their son, Cale Owens, who affectionately referred to him as "Dadison". He was extremely proud of Cale and loved him as his own.
Born October 5, 1992, in Charleston, SC, he was the son of Madison and Lesley Utsey. He was a graduate of Colleton County High School and spent many years attending Colleton Prep Academy where he played football and baseball. He worked for the family business, M&G Builders, from an early age where he excelled in the building of custom homes alongside his father. He was a member of the Edisto Outlaw Offshore Fishing Team winning many tournaments over the years with some of his best friends.
Madison was an avid outdoorsman whose happiest days were spent hunting or on the water. He hunted with family and friends throughout all seasons, but had a special affection for the turkey woods, a duck blind, and tournament offshore fishing. Most nights you could find him cooking his latest catch or kill for everyone. He loved a good round of golf, but only if there was money on the line.
Madison was the kind of young man who naturally stepped into the lead regardless of the situation. He was also known for his extreme competitiveness, always being the life of the party, and brutal honesty—straightforward, unfiltered, and sincere. Whether the truth was easy or hard to hear, Madison gave it to you plainly, and those who truly knew him loved him for it. He will always be remembered and loved by so many friends and family who shared wonderful memories with him.
In addition to Mandy and Cale, he is survived by his mother, Lesley Foster Utsey and father, Madison Utsey (Allie) of Walterboro, SC his sister, Austin Fosberry (Mikell) of Mount Pleasant, SC, his stepbrother, Charlie Walker, and stepsisters, Carson Carter (Josh) and Elise Walker of Walterboro, SC; his paternal grandparents, Glenn and Patrica Utsey of Walterboro, SC and Cappy Hall Rearick of Saluda, NC; his niece, Suzanne Fosberry of Mount Pleasant, SC, and step-nephew Levi Carter of Walterboro, SC; his aunt, Shelley Foster O'Keefe (Brian) of New York, NY, and uncles, Skip Utsey (Judy) of Charleston, SC, Jamey Copeland (Sharon) of Walterboro, SC, and Trent Copeland of Tucson, AZ; his cousins, Emma O'Keefe, Matthew Holley, David Holley, Ashburn Tuttle, Bugs Utsey, Burns Utsey, Parker Utsey, Thomas Utsey, Maggie Utsey, Tabor Floyd, and Claire Copeland; and Mandy's family, whom he loved dearly, Bubsy and Lynda McLaine of Walterboro, SC, Jaime Reynolds (Will) and their daughter McLaine of Orangeburg, SC. He is also survived by a large and loving group of friends who were like family. He is preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Bob and Sue Foster; paternal grandfather, William Rearick, and aunt, Lori Foster Holley.
