Obituary

WALTERBORO: Mrs. Margaret Stanfield Blocker, widow of the late James A. Blocker Sr., passed away peacefully Wednesday evening, February 15, 2023 at the Summerville Community Hospice House with her family beside her.  She was 90.

Mrs. Blocker was born in Colleton County December 11, 1932 a daughter of the late James Willie Stanfield and Ida Benton Stanfield.  For most of her life she was a homemaker, taking care of the needs of her family.  After her sons were grown, she became employed as a Kindergarten Teacher for the Charleston County School District…a job she truly cherished…impacting the lives of countless children throughout the Lowcountry.

Mrs. Blocker was an active member of Pine Grove Baptist Church, where she helped with the bereavement committee and Vacation Bible School.  She loved gardening, canning, and was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.

Mrs. Blocker is survived by her son, James Adam "Jimmy" Blocker Jr., and wife Cherie, of Summerville, as well as by three grandchildren, Allison, Brett and Adam Blocker.  She has one sister, Pat S. Williamson of Charlotte.  In addition to her parents, and her husband of fifty years, Mrs. Blocker was preceded in death by a son, James Michael Blocker, and by her siblings Elise S. Beach, Leonard Stanfield, James Harris "Harry" Stanfield, and Theodore Stanfield.

Funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon, February 19, 2023 at 2:00 at Pine Grove Baptist Church, with burial following in the church cemetery.  The family will receive friends during a time of visitation Saturday evening, February 18, from 5:00 until 7:00.  Parker-Rhoden Funeral Home, 117 Paul Street in Walterboro is in charge of arrangements.
