Obituary

RUFFIN:     Mrs. Margie Nettles Searson, wife of the late Jack R. Searson, passed away peacefully late Monday evening, August 26, 2024 at her home in Ruffin.  She was 87.

Mrs. Searson was born in Colleton County January 24, 1937 a daughter of the late Horace Leavy Nettles and Etta Jane Smoak Nettles.  She was employed for over thirty years at what was originally the Farmers and Merchant Bank in Walterboro, where she started as a teller, before handling many other responsibilities.  Mrs. Searson was an active member of Shiloh Baptist Church, and after retirement enjoyed spending time in her yard working on her shrubs and plants.  She was known throughout the area as an excellent quilt maker.  She created wedding dolls for the marriages of each of her daughters, granddaughters, and great-granddaughters…and she made beautiful quilts for the men when they married.  She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who will truly be missed.

Mrs. Searson is survived by her children:  Jane Shaw (Harry), Jill Tripp (David), Gina Searson, and Jeffrey Searson (Dawn).  She leaves behind her sister Malovene Creel (Larry), as well as seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

A private family graveside service will be held Thursday morning, August 29, 2024 at 11:00 at Smoak Cemetery in Ruffin.  Parker-Rhoden Funeral Home, 117 Paul Street in Walterboro is in charge of arrangements.
