ROUND O: Mrs. Martha Wyman Davenport, wife of the late Frederick Sawert Davenport, passed away Sunday evening at the Colleton Medical Center in Walterboro. She was 83.
Mrs. Davenport was born in Columbia, SC August 5, 1933 a daughter of the late Hugh and Myrtis Wilson Wyman. She and her late husband owned and operated Bearcreek Feed and Seed in Chapin and The Station in Prosperity for many years. She was a former member of the First Presbyterian Church in Columbia, and after making Round O her home in 2003, became a member of Bethel Presbyterian Church in Walterboro, where she was active in the Bethel Women's Circle.
She is survived by her children: Frederick S. Davenport (Kathy) of Weir, MS, Hugh Wyman Davenport (Jenny) of Gaston, SC, and Susan D. Dodd (David) of Round O. There are nine grandchildren: Elizabeth Hamilton (Matt), and Susanna, Margaret, Noah, Carolyn, Gray, and Dustin Davenport, Martha Dodd, and Todd Boone. There are also three great-grandchildren: Parker, Aaron and Jackson Hamilton. Mrs. Davenport also leaves behind a kind and generous friend whom she loved as a daughter, Martha Johnson and her husband Randall.
Funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon at 3:00 in the Bethel Presbyterian Church in Walterboro. The family will receive friends beginning at 2:00 in the church fellowship hall. Committal services will be held Friday morning at the Beaufort National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Women's Circle at Bethel Presbyterian Church.
