Obituary

WALTERBORO :     Mrs. Mary Ruth Smith Fennell Larsen, widow of the late Thomas Fennell and of the late Donald Larsen, passed away Monday evening, March 1, 2021 at the Colleton Medical Center.  She was 91.

Mrs. Larsen was born in Cottageville July 13, 1929 a daughter of the late Hugo B. and Elizabeth Dandridge Smith.  She worked at both the Naval Air Station and the Charleston Navy Yard before owning and operating Nu-Way Dry Cleaners in Walterboro with her late husband Thomas.  Later, she became a beautician, and enjoyed being in the shop with the ladies from around Walterboro and Colleton County.  She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Walterboro, and had attended Oakley Road Ministries in Moncks Corner.  She loved her Lord, and she was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.

She is survived by her children:  Tommy Fennell (Linda), Lynn F. Robertson (Hallie), and Lisa F. Thompson.  She has a step-daughter Shellie Stone (Jeff) and a sister Julie Alice Adams.  There are six grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews.  She also leaves behind her devoted caregiver Virginia.

In lieu of the current situation that exists in the nation, state and county with the coronavirus, and with the safety of the community in mind, the family will hold a private graveside service at the Live Oak Cemetery in Walterboro, where she will be interred beside her late husband Thomas.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to either the First Baptist Church of Walterboro or to Oakley Road Ministries in Moncks Corner.  Parker-Rhoden Funeral Home of Walterboro is in charge of arrangements.
