YEMASSEE:     Mildred Annice Richardson Guess, our dear mother and grandmother, left this earthly life to begin her glorious life eternal on October 2, 2025.

Born in Madison, Florida on September 7, 1938, Mildred began her 87 years sharing a great deal of time with her beloved grandmother and grandfather Beggs.  Though she and her family moved from Florida to the Wilmington area of North Carolina when she was a young girl, reunions with the Beggs family remained a greatly anticipated occasion in her life until her passing. Many of her fondest memories are of her time with her grandmother and granddaddy Beggs, and she spoke of those times and those loving and caring people often and with great affection.

After the family's relocation to Eastern North Carolina and her graduation from Burgaw High School in 1956, she spent time at the Outer Banks, another very fond memory that she was happy to share.

Time spent working for her sister's husband, a paving contractor, took her to many distant job sites.  While working in Walterboro, South Carolina, she met Gardner Hugh Guess, Jr. (Sonny), her husband of 36 years.

After her employment with The Lost Colony production in Manteo, she entered the bookkeeping/record keeping line of work. Because of her extraordinary work ethic, she became an accomplished bookkeeper and began her nearly lifelong employment by various businesses as bookkeeper/record keeper/payroll manager. Working at Brown Paving Company, John C. Calhoun Academy, lawyers' offices, Farm Credit, the county treasurer's office, etc., she was sought for her skills and retired from Cherokee Plantation as a highly valued employee.

Mildred held full-time employment as a farmer's wife and mother of two, balancing those responsibilities yet also managing her time so as to become a beautifully accomplished seamstress (making nearly all of her and her daughter's clothes), and developing beautiful hand work techniques (knitting, crocheting, embroidery, and cross stitch). Much of her work, adorns her home.

Additionally, our mother/grandmother enjoyed horseback riding, the beach, gardening, and her family… mostly her family. From her children and grandchildren, to aunts and uncles, to brothers and sisters, to nieces and nephews, she loved hearing their news and visiting.

As she enters into Glory, she is preceded by her husband (G. H. Guess, Jr., Sonny), her beloved son (G. H. Guess, III, Hughie), her parents (Forney Norwood and Lou Ella Beggs Richardson), her sisters (Harriette Richardson Wynne, Betty Richardson Hefner, and Charlotte Richardson Humphrey), her brothers (CDR F. N. Richardson Jr, US Navy, and Stewart A. Richardson).  She is survived by her daughter, Alison Guess Still, son-in-law, Mike Still, and treasured grandchildren, Michael Hugh Still and Kori Annice Still.  She is also survived by many loved and loving brothers and sisters (Georgia Richardson Bell, Virginia Richardson Highsmith, Shepard A. Richardson, Herbert C. Richardson, Douglas P. Richardson, and Donald S. Richardson). And her nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews are many, and were cherished, each and every one.

Many friends, colleagues, and family members will miss her, but can remember her life as a beautiful example of the Fruits of the Spirit and integrity. As a child of God, she has been welcomed Home, and is at last leading a life of peace… forever.

A memorial service will be held Saturday afternoon, October 11, 2025 at 2:00 at Salem United Methodist Church in Hendersonville.  The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the church fellowship hall.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made in her memory to either Stokes Cemetery, c/o Louis Guess, 524 Black Creek Road, Walterboro, SC  29488, or to Old Oakland Cemetery, c/o James Kelley, 2076 Trailwood Drive, Decatur, GA 30032.   Parker-Rhoden Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
