WALTERBORO:     Miriam Jordan Davis died on Thursday June 28, 2018, surrounded by her daughters, other family, and friends.   Born in Lodge, SC, on June 13, 1926, she was the daughter of Raymond Wendell Jordan and Mabel Jones Jordan.

Mrs. Davis (Miriam) is survived by two daughters and their husbands:  Paula Davis Haussmann and Larry Haussmann of Columbia, SC and Frieda Davis Cone and George Cone of Walterboro; her grandson Matthew Bryan Haussmann, and a great-grandson Noah Aidan Haussmann of Los Angeles, CA.  She is also survived by her brother, Russell Jordan of Lodge SC. She was predeceased by the father of her daughters, Thomas Morgan Davis and a special cousin, Essie Miley Bishop.

After  graduating from Lodge High School in 1943, where she was a member of the basketball team, Miriam received a bachelor's degree in Home Economics in 1947 from Winthrop College.  She was a home economist for the Clemson Extension Service in Manning, SC for a year.  She then taught first grade in Sumter and Columbia, SC for over 20 years.  In 1973, Miriam moved to Walterboro and was the Colleton County Extension Agent for Clemson University Cooperative Extension Service for fifteen years before retiring.  During this time Miriam worked with homemakers clubs relaying information from Clemson to the following Family Community Leaders clubs:  Bells-Ruffin, Glendale, Round O, Ireland Creek, Springtown, Neyles, Deep Creek, Lunch-n-Learn, Walterboro and Cottageville. She also judged both food and crafts at the State Fair. After retiring, she formed a travel group for senior citizens and led trips  to New York City, Williamsburg, VA, Branson, MO, Sanibel  Island, FL and other destinations.

Miriam was an active member of Shandon United Methodist Church in Columbia, where she taught Sunday School  in the first grade class and played the piano.  In Walterboro she served on the Board of Trustees at Bethel United Methodist Church.

Miriam was known for her generosity and hospitality.  She enjoyed baking and cooking for family and friends.  She carried meals to the sick and elderly and shared her homemade treats with neighbors and friends.  She loved holidays,  welcoming visitors to her beautifully decorated home,  making gifts, and teaching crafts.  An avid bridge player, Miriam played regularly with her friends for over 30 years.  A talented seamstress, she enjoyed many activities, including playing the piano, watching basketball, helping others, and most of all Miriam loved her family.

Funeral services will be held Monday afternoon, July 2, 2018 at 1:00 at Bethel United Methodist Church in Walterboro, with burial following in the Lodge United Methodist Church Cemetery in Lodge.  The family will receive friends Sunday afternoon from 4-6 PM at Parker-Rhoden Funeral Home, 117 Paul street in Walterboro, which is in charge of arrangements.
