LODGE :     Mrs. Miriam Peters McMillan, wife of the late John Dudley McMillan, passed away Friday morning, February 5, 2021 at the Lowcountry Hospice House in Summerville.  She was 92.

"Mrs. Miriam" was born in Lodge July 11, 1928 a daughter of the late Otis Albert Peters and Ruby Kinard Peters. She married her high school sweetheart John at an early age, and after a few years of living in Charleston, they decided to follow her passion for farming and raising  animals by purchasing a small farm in Lodge.  Over the years the farm grew, and Miriam focused her energies on her interest in concentrated animal feeding operations (CAFO), an aspect of farming she continued to be involved with until she retired at the age of 71.

Miriam was a lifelong member of Carter's Ford Baptist Church.  She dearly loved her family and her church, and her life was a living testimony of her beliefs.  She ministered to the community members with her "Homemade pound cakes", and was always ready and willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need.

She is survived by her son Johnny McMillan (Donna) of Lodge, and by her daughter, Betty M. Woodward (Jack) of Varnville.  There are five grandchildren:  Lindsay Cobb (Chris), John McMillan, Ben McMillan, Julie Mundell (Josh), and Kyle McMillan.  She has four great-grandchildren:  Brooke McMillan, Isaac McMillan, Hayley Cobb, and Taylor Cobb.  Miriam has four step-grandchildren:  Benjamin Reeves (Inglish), David Reeves (Kayti), Branna Williams (Dan) and Harley Snell (Chris), as well as five step-great-grandchildren:  Thomas Williams, Beth Williams, Mary Wessels, James Williams, and Gabriel Reeves.

In addition to her husband and parents, Miriam was preceded in death by a grandchild Krysta Lamb, and by her siblings:  Lamar Peters, P.L. Peters Sr., Henry Peters, Meredith Peters, Furman Peters, Amber Don Peters, Bessie Lee Bunton, Doris Cox, and Ruby Nell Taylor.

Funeral services will be held Monday, February 8, 2021 at 2:00 at Carter's Ford Baptist Church, with burial following in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends beginning at 1:00 in the church sanctuary.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made in her memory to the Carter's Ford Baptist Church.  Parker-Rhoden Funeral Home, 117 Paul Street in Walterboro is in charge of arrangements.
