Obituary

COTTAGEVILLE:     Mr. Murrell Rex Wilson, husband of the late Elsie May Bowles Wilson, passed away Sunday morning, March 30, 2025 at the Veterans Victory House in Walterboro at the age of 91.  He was born in Ringgold, Texas November 1, 1933, a son of the late Winfred Winton Wilson and the late Corene Morris Wilson.

Mr. Wilson enlisted in the United States Navy at a young age, and served his country faithfully for twenty-six years…retiring as a Senior Chief Fire Control Technician.  After retirement, he worked for another sixteen years as an electrician at Trident Medical Center.  Mr. Wilson was a member of the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and he loved firearms, shooting sports, and cars.

He is survived by his children Catherine Ann Wilson, and Mark Wayne Wilson, and by his sisters Carolyn Sue Rogers and Bonnie Lou Copeland.  There are two grandchildren.

A homecoming service celebrating his life will be held Thursday morning, April 3, 2025 at 9:00 AM at Maple Cane Baptist Church.  The United States Navy and the Patriot Guard will render military honors. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to either Maple Cane Baptist Church, or to the VFW Post 12102, P.O.B. 602, Walterboro, SC  29488.  Parker-Rhoden Funeral Home, 117 Paul Street in Walterboro is in charge of arrangements.
