Obituary

ROUND O: Mrs. Myrtle Seigler Spell, wife of the late Clyde Bruce Spell Sr., passed away at her home in Round O Saturday morning April 15, 2017 surrounded by her loving family. She was 88.

Myrtle was born in Colleton County July 29, 1928 a daughter of the late Grover C. Seigler and Mae Nettles Seigler. She graduated from both Walterboro High School and North Greenville Junior College, before receiving her Master's Degree in Education from Furman University. She spent her life educating children, and taught at Lamb Elementary, John C. Calhoun Academy, and in the public school systems in both Dorchester County and Colleton County. She was a former member of the Cottageville Baptist Church, and was a current member of Bedon Baptist Church, where in years past she taught Vacation Bible School, and was active in the WMU. Throughout her life, she brought happiness to others with her beautiful smile and outgoing personality. Two of her greatest joys were traveling throughout the world with her late husband and son, and playing a good game of Solitaire.


She is survived by her sister, Mae Seigler Harrison of Round O. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Clyde Bruce Spell Jr., and by her brothers Carol, Adolph and J.C. Seigler. She leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews and extended family that loved her dearly.


The family wishes to express their heartfelt love and appreciation to the certified nursing assistants that cared for Myrtle over the last few years, Edna Campbell, April Ross and Heydi Helmueller, her devoted sitter Darlene Graham,and her special niece Marie Ackerman, who was always there to help with her every need. They also wish to acknowledge Hospice Care of SC and nurse Robin Varn for their wonderful service and constant support.

Funeral services will be held Monday afternoon at 4:00 in the chapel of Parker-Rhoden Funeral Home, with burial following in the Bedon Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 2:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Bedon Baptist Church Family Life Center, 2410 Cottageville Highway, Walterboro, SC 29488
