WALTERBORO: Nancy R. Beach, born October 21, 1934, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, January 7th, 2018. She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years Klein B. Beach, Jr., brother and sister-in-law Paul and Julia Reece of Pickens, SC and parents Jordan Mayfield Reece and Mary Kay Reece, also of Pickens.
Born in Pickens, she graduated from Pickens High School before attending Columbia College. She came to Walterboro in 1956 to work as the Director of Curriculum for Bethel United Methodist Church. She later attended Winthrop and obtained a teaching certificate in French and taught briefly at John C. Calhoun Academy. She served as secretary/bookkeeper there in later years. Her last position was as Minister of Visitation for Bethel United Methodist Church, where she served for over 15 years. She loved the mountains, the beach, cross stitching, playing bridge and crossword puzzles. Besides perpetual involvement with her church at many levels she was a volunteer and supporter for the American Cancer Society, Homeward Bound Animal Sanctuary, and the Alzheimer's Association.
She is survived by her daughter Eugenia K. Beach, of Walterboro; son, K. Brantley Beach, III of Charleston; son and daughter-in-law Dr. P. Kevin Beach and Rebecca Beach of Saint Simons Island, GA. There are four grandchildren, Austin, Catherine, Caroline and Thomas Beach also of Saint Simons Island, and two nephews Michael Reece, and Scott Reece of Pickens, SC.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday morning at 11:00 in the Bethel United Methodist Church, with entombment following in the Mausoleum at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at Parker-Rhoden Funeral Home Tuesday evening from 6-8 PM, and in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Bethel United Methodist Church or to Hospice Care of South Carolina.
