CHARLESTON :     Nell Smith Mixson passed away Tuesday morning, June 16, 2020 at The Methodist Oaks in Orangeburg after an extended illness.  She was 90.

Nell was born June 24, 1929 in Jasper County, SC a daughter of the late James Lester Smith and Nella Smith Smith.  Throughout her career she was a front office manager at many of the hotels in downtown Charleston.  She was of the Baptist Faith, enjoyed reading her bible, and in her younger years was an avid gardener.  She was a devoted mother and grandmother.

Nell is survived by her daughter Janet Chinnis (Lee) of Charleston, by her grandchildren Traci Ann Mixson, Jodi Martin (Sam), Justin Chinnis (Holly), and Jason Chinnis (Jen), and by her great-grandchildren Lainey and Cooper Chinnis and Foch Martin.  She also leaves behind her siblings:  James L. Smith Jr. (Hazel) of Early Branch, LeGrand Smith (Charlene) of Cummings, Gerald Smith of Early Branch, Gail Henry of Georgia, and Judy Whitely (Harold) of Walterboro.  She was preceded in death by a son James "Jimmy" Mixson, and by two sisters Barbara Kennedy and Deloris Ingold.

Graveside funeral services will be held Thursday morning, June 18, 2020 at 11:00 at Live Oak Memorial Gardens in Charleston.  Parker-Rhoden Funeral Home, 117 Paul Street in Walterboro is in charge of arrangements.
