WALTERBORO: Mrs. Nicolina Salerno, wife of Miltiadis Stamatopoulas, passed away peacefully at her home in Walterboro Thursday morning, February 6, 2025 under hospice care, at the age of 86.
Nicolina was born December 7, 1938 in the city of Bellona, in Caserta, Italy, a daughter of the late Marco and Vincenza Cafaro Salerno. She emigrated to the United States in the early 1960's, and for many years she worked as the primary secretary for the Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Worcester, Massachusetts. After moving to Walterboro, she became an active member of St. Anthony Catholic Church.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her step-son, Dimitrio Stamatopoulos, as well as by a host of extended family in the United States and in Italy.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted Saturday morning, February 8, 2025 at 10:00 at St. Anthony Catholic Church, with the Rite of Committal immediately following at Live Oak Cemetery. Parker-Rhoden Funeral Home, 117 Paul Street in Walterboro is in charge of arrangements.
