Peggy Avant White, lovingly known as "MaMa" to her grands and great-grands, passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of Thursday, April 9, 2026 at her home in Walterboro, under hospice care, with her family by her side.  She was 88.

Peggy was born in Colleton County April 16, 1937 a daughter of the late Caleb Donihue Avant, and the late Tula Elizabeth Butler Avant.  For many years she was a dedicated employee of the Walterboro Dress Plant, and she was a member of Doctor's Creek Baptist Church.  Peggy loved to read, and was a member of the book club at the library.  She could often be found caring for her plants and flowers, working in her yard, or thrift shopping and yard sale hopping.  She enjoyed spending time at the beach, and was a wonderful mother, grandmother and sister.

She is survived by her sons Jimmy White (Sherrie), and Wes White (Donna).  She leaves behind her grandchildren Jeremy White (Shiena), Gus White (Macy), Christy Duncan (Ben), and Michelle Suttle, as well as her great-grandchilden Charlotte McGuinness, Ansley Duncan, Gabriella Hope White, and Campbell White.  She is survived by her brother, James Earl Avant, her devoted friend Mary Ann Ramsey, and her special neighbor Ronald Muckenfuss.

In addition to her parents, Peggy was preceded in death by her siblings Polly Anne Avant DeWitt, Carl Lee Avant, Robert Neal Avant Sr., and Lawrence D. "Don" Avant Sr.

Funeral services will be held Monday afternoon, April 13, 2026 at 2:00 in the chapel of Parker-Rhoden Funeral Home, with burial following in the Doctor's Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.  The family will receive friends beginning at 1:00 at the funeral home, located at 117 Paul Street in Walterboro.
