COTTAGEVILLE: Mrs. Phyllis Marie "Penny" McLees, wife of Joseph McLees, passed away Sunday morning at the Colleton Medical Center in Walterboro. She was 57.

Mrs. McLees was born in Charleston June 23, 1958 a daughter of Francis B. Smith and the late Ethel Thigpen Smith. She worked in the purchasing department of Flora-Life in Walterboro, was a member of the Walterboro Cruisers Car Club, and was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother.

In addition to her husband of Cottageville, and her father of Cades, SC, she is survived by her daughters: Nikki Schluter (Warren) of Cottageville, and Lauren McLees (Joseph Hargrove) of Columbia. There are two grandchildren, Miles and Micah, and one sister, Reba Nickell of Cades.


The family will receive friends during a time of visitation and celebration of her life on Saturday June 18, 2016 at the Rehoboth United Methodist Church in Cottageville from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to either the Hope Lodge of Charleston, 269 Calhoun Street, Charleston, SC 29401 or to the Friends of the Colleton County Animal Shelter (FoCCAS), 33 Poor Farm Road, Walterboro, SC 29488. Parker-Rhoden Funeral Home of Walterboro is in charge of arrangements.
