Obituary

WALTERBORO: Mrs. Rachel Hiott Lemacks, wife of the late Melvin Louis Lemacks, passed away Thursday at the Colleton Medical Center in Walterboro. She was 84.

Mrs. Lemacks was born in Colleton County August 11, 1931 a daughter of the late Luther and Viola Smith Hiott. She retired from the Walterboro Dress Plant as a seamstress, and attended the Church of God of Prophecy. Her children and grandchildren were the focus of her life, she loved animals, and she was known for her laughter and for spending time talking with family and friends.


She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Melvin Lemacks and Sherrie, who were also he caretakers, and by her daughter and son-in-law, Lillie Vaughn (O'Neal), all of Walterboro. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Gloria Hunter. She has two step-children, Rachel Lemacks (Joy) of James Island, and L.J. Lemacks (Margie) of Walterboro. There are six grandchildren: Louis , Zackery, and Ellison Lemacks, Jason and Justin Vaughn, and Tommy Hunter. There are a host of step-grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, Mrs. Lemacks was preceded in death by step-children Eula Mae Webber, Monell Lemacks and Reed Hadley.

Funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon at 3:00 in the chapel of Parker-Rhoden Funeral Home, with burial following in the Live Oak Cemetery. Visitation will be held Friday evening from 6-8 PM at Parker-Rhoden Funeral Home of Walterboro, which is in charge of arrangements.
