Obituary

WALTERBORO :    Mr. Carlos M. "Ray" Zeigler Sr., husband of the late Mary Lou Crosby Zeigler, passed away unexpectedly at his home Sunday morning, November 6, 2022.  He was 78.

Ray was born in Canadys November 18, 1943 a son of the late Percy and Leona Berry Zeigler.  He was a well-known diesel mechanic and truck driver, affectionately referred to as "Poppa Diesel" by his colleagues. Ray was an active member of Bethel Baptist Church, and was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.  He enjoyed spending time outdoors hunting and fishing, and taking trips to the mountains with his family.

Ray is survived by his children Carlos McRae Zeigler Jr. and Susan Zeigler Crosby (Wayne), all of Walterboro.  There are two grandchildren, Kennedy Crosby Stivender (Trey) and George Crosby, as well as two great-grandsons, Hoyt and Everette Stivender.  He leaves behind two sisters, Carol McCutchun and Nancy Carson.  In addition to his parents, and his wife of thirty-eight years, Ray was preceded in death by his grandson Jonathan Zeigler, by his great-grandson Kaiden Jonathan Zeigler, and by his brother Preston Brooks Zeigler.

Funeral services will be held Friday morning, Novemer 11, 2022 at 11:00 at Bethel Baptist Church, with burial following in the church cemetery.  The family will receive friends beginning at 10:00 in the church sanctuary.   Parker-Rhoden Funeral Home, 117 Paul Street in Walterboro is in charge of arrangements.
