Obituary

WALTERBORO : Richard Rentz "Ricky" Sheffield, husband of Shawne Headden Sheffield, passed away Sunday morning, February 21, 2021 at Trident Hospital in Charleston.  He was 65.

Ricky was born June 24, 1955 in Colleton County, a son of the late William L. "Billy" Sheffield and Genevieve "Beak" Rentz Sheffield.  He graduated from Walterboro High School in 1973 and then attended EMT school, before working for many years as an Emergency Medical Technician in Colleton County. Later, Ricky was an operating room manager at Colleton Medical Center, and had worked most recently as a courthouse security deputy for the Colleton County Sheriff's Office.  He was also the former owner and operator of Palmetto Liquors.

Ricky possessed an incredibly outgoing and generous personality.  He was a prankster and a true comedian…always lifting the spirits of others and causing laughter among his friends and family.  He was meticulous with his yard work…especially his grass cutting…and was known to hide the keys to his lawnmower so others couldn't use it to mess up his yard!  He loved to travel, and was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.  Ricky was an avid fan of the South Carolina Gamecocks, and his smile will be missed by all.

In addition to his wife of twenty-five years, Ricky is survived by his children "Riki" Sheffield, and Richard Sheffield (Robin) of Walterboro, and Andrea Michel (Rick) of Washington State. He has a step-son, Josh Thomas (Misty) of Walterboro, and a brother Billy Sheffield, III (Barbara) of NC.  There are eight grandchildren, as well as his beloved granddog Levi.  He leaves behind two special friends, Rudy Clark and Danny Gregory.

A memorial service celebrating his life will be held Wednesday evening, February 24, 2021 at 5:30 in the Chapel of Parker-Rhoden Funeral Home.  The family will receive friends afterwards until 8:00.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, or to the Friends of the Colleton County Animal Shelter, 33 Poor Farm Road, Walterboro, SC  29488.  Parker-Rhoden Funeral Home, 117 Paul Street in Walterboro is in charge of arrangements.
