WALTERBORO: Richard "Ricky" Thigpen passed away unexpectedly Thursday, March 12, 2026 at the Colleton Medical Center in Walterboro after a brief illness. He was 50.
Ricky was born in Summerville, September 22, 1975, a son of the late Raymond and Edna Mann Thigpen. He was a gifted athlete in high school and was an excellent baseball player. Throughout his earlier adult years he continued his love of sports by playing softball thoughout the state of South Carolina. Ricky was a well-known delivery driver for Castillo's Pizzeria in Walterboro, and also for the Press and Standard Newspaper, where he could be depended on to make sure "The Shopper" was placed in the local stores and mailboxes throughout Colleton County and the surrounding areas. He loved spending time outdoors and was an avid hunter, but most importantly, he was a devoted and caring father, son and brother.
Ricky is survived by his sons Michael Thigpen (Taylor), Benjamin Thigpen (Kassie), and Landon Thigpen. He leaves behind a brother, Ryan Thigpen (Amanda), and a sister, Kathy Thigpen. There is a host of nieces, nephews and extended family that loved him dearly. In addition to his parents, Ricky was preceded in death by a brother, Ray Thigpen.
A celebration of Ricky's life will be held Saturday morning, March 28, 2026 at 11:00 in the chapel of Parker-Rhoden Funeral Home. The family will receive friends following the service.
