Robert Delano Connelly, 88, of Reevesville, SC, passed away peacefully at home on November 11, 2025 surrounded by his loving family. Born on May 8, 1937 in Dorchester County, he was a devoted husband of 65 years to Mildred Byrd Connelly and a loving father to two sons, Gary and Scott.
Robert served in the United States National Guard, then devoted many years of service to Charleston Naval Shipyard working as a nuclear submarine toolroom mechanic until retirement. While there, he was known for his hard work and dedication to his career. Despite his many responsibilities and lengthy travel to and from work, he always made time for his family and his passions.
Though Dad may not have liked being the center of attention, he deserves to have his long years of fatherly love honored. He was a man of integrity, kindness, and generosity, and he left a lasting impact on everyone who knew him.
Dad's hobbies and interests helped define who he was. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, often spending his Saturdays in the hunting woods, on the Edisto River, or in a fishpond. His love for fishing was something he shared with his loving wife, children, and grandchildren, leaving a mark on us that will never fade.
Robert is predeceased by his parents, Julius and Louise Connelly, two brothers Fletcher Connelly and Jerome Connelly, and one sister Barbara Kizer.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years Mildred Byrd Connelly, 2 sons, Gary (Kathleen) Connelly and Scott Connelly, six grandchildren Cameron (Logan) Connelly, Andrew (Zoey) Connelly, Ansley Connelly, Brandon Connelly and fiancee Hannah, Bryson Connelly, and Harley (Alicia) Riggins, and six great grandchildren Presleigh Connelly, Paxton Connelly, Beckham Summers, Hailey Summers, Adalynn Brewington, and Waylon Riggins. He is also survived by two siblings Mary Ellen Wimberly and Dixie Connelly, sister-in-law Bonnie Connelly, brothers and sisters-in-law Brenda Mizell, Linda Infinger, Chris and Shirley Jones, and Butch and Cindy Simmons, step brother-in-law Timmy (Stephanie) Gruber, as well as many nieces, nephews and other extended family members and friends.
Robert was a lifelong member of Old St. George Baptist Church where he served as an usher and on numerous committees throughout the years before his illness.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, November 14, 2025 at 3:00PM at Old St. George Baptist Church with visitation being held one hour prior to the service.
Pallbearers are Cameron Connelly, Brandon Connelly, Andrew Connelly, Bryson Connelly, Harley Riggins, and Barry Connelly.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The American Alzheimer's Association.
We find comfort in knowing that Dad's legacy lives on through the many things he taught us, the love he shared, and the memories we will cherish forever.
Parker-Rhoden Funeral Home, 117 Paul Street in Walterboro is in charge of arrangements.
