COTTAGEVILLE: Robert Edward Hogan, Sr. husband of Rebecca Gruber Hogan passed away Wednesday evening October 21, 2015 at the Veterans Victory House in Walterboro after an extended illness. He was 72.


Mr. Hogan was born April 11, 1943, in Rockingham, NC, a son of the late Robert Smith Hogan and Sarah Elease Powell Hogan. He was a Sgt. in the U.S. Army, having joined the 82nd Airborne Division at the age of 19. He proudly served his country during the Korean Conflict. Mr. Hogan was a faithful member of the Rehoboth United Methodist Church, where he actively served as long as his health permitted. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service and the Wildwood Nursery in Walterboro. Bob will always be remembered for his love of the land, his wonderful sense of humor, his gift of storytelling, and his devotion to God, family, and country.

Surviving in addition to his wife are two sons: Robert Edward Hogan, Jr. (Jenny) of Baton Rouge, LA and James Smith Hogan (Diana) of Lexington, SC. There are two brothers, Jerry Hogan (Jackie) of Loga Vista, TX and Mike Hogan (Marvette) of Bamberg, SC. He leaves behind four grandchildren who brought much joy to his life. He was predeceased by two siblings, Blanche Blackwood and James Hogan.

The family wishes to express their heartfelt thanks to Patriot Hospice (Melody Craven & Donna Hiers), the Veterans Victory House staff, Drs. John Lucas and Gunther Rencken, and Physician's Assistant Marianne Holmes.....who will all be remembered for their excellent care and loving support.

Services will be held in the chapel of the Parker-Rhoden Funeral Home in Walterboro at 11:00 AM on Monday, October 26, 2015. The family will receive friends immediately following the service. A private burial service will be held later. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Rehoboth United Methodist Church, Patriot Hospice, or to the Veterans Victory House.
