ROUND O :     Mr. Robert Ernest Thompson Sr., husband of Emma Gooding Thompson, passed away at his home Friday, April 5, 2019.  He was 81.

Mr. Thompson was born in Abbeville March 12, 1938 a son of the late Robert Homer Thompson and Lettie May South Thompson.  He graduated from Clemson in 1961, and worked for the Soil Conservation Service as an Agricultural Engineer for 35 years.

Mr. Thompson was an active member of Bethel Baptist Church, where he served as a Deacon.  He was a former member of Bethlehem Baptist Church where he served as a men's Sunday School teacher, a Deacon, and director of the outreach ministry.  He enjoyed farming, wood-working, and spending time with his family.

In addition to his wife of 43 years, he is survived by his son Robert Ernest Thompson Jr. (Jennifer), by his daughter Allison Thompson Dorn (Scotty), and by his grandchildren:  Seth Roland Dorn, Grace Caroline Dorn, and Robert Woodrow Thompson.  He has one sister, Betty Thompson Dansby, nephews Bill Dansby and Bob Dansby (Sherry), and a niece Bonnie Poore (Billy).

Funeral services will be held Monday afternoon, April 8, 2019 at 3:00 at Bethel Baptist Church in Walterboro, with burial following in the Kinsey Cemetery in Round O.  The family will receive friends in the church sanctuary beginning at 1:00.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Bethel Baptist Church, 3481 Sidney's Road, Walterboro, SC  29488.  Parker-Rhoden Funeral Home, 117 Paul Street in Walterboro is in charge of arrangements.
