ROUND O :     Mr. Roland Davis Gruber, husband of the late Sadie Fralix Gruber, passed away peacefully at his home in Round O early Thursday morning, February 10, 2022 under hospice care surrounded by his loving family.  He was 93.

Mr. Gruber was born in Branchville, SC October 17, 1928 a son of the late John W. Gruber and Alma Ott Gruber.  He was an Army veteran of the Korean War, where he served in the 836 ^th Signal Radio Relay Company.  He was the owner of River Rest Campground, was a former state constable, and was an active member of St. Matthews Baptist Church for sixty-two years, where he was a deacon and a past director of music.  Mr. Gruber possessed a love of travel, and he enjoyed every moment he could spend with his family and friends. He will truly be missed.

Mr. Gruber is survived by his grandchildren Mary Ellen Fischer, Karen Fischer Mackey (Nathan), and Richard Fischer Jr. (Whitney).  He leaves behind his son-in-law Richard "Rick" Fischer Sr., three great-grandchildren, Dahlia, Hannah and Tallulah, and a host of loving and devoted nieces, nephews and extended family.  His wife of sixty-two years preceded him in death in 2017, and his daughter, Betty Gruber Fischer, passed away in June of last year.  He was also predeceased by twin sons who died as infants, and by his brothers Harper, John, Birnell, and Bobby Gruber.

Funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon, February 12, 2022 at 3:00 in the St. Matthews Baptist Church on Wire Road in Grover .  Burial will follow at the Saint George Cemetery in Saint George.  The family will receive friends beginning at 1:30 in the church sanctuary.  Parker-Rhoden Funeral Home, 117 Paul Street in Walterboro is in charge of arrangements.
