WALTERBORO: Mrs. Ruthie Hegwood Postell, wife of the late Clifford Nelson Postell, died Wednesday, May 15, 2019  at her residence in Walterboro, surrounded by her family.  She was 84.

Mrs. Postell was born in Meigs, GA August 20, 1934 a daughter of the late Adolphus Hegwood and Gladys Turner Hegwood.

Ruthie's past time was fishing and she would go to the Pied farm as often as possible to sit on her bucket and fish all day.  She liked to travel either to visit family out-of-state or to just go to the mountains in NC for a weekend.  She loved yard sales and thrift stores especially when expanding her collection of "babies".  In later years she enjoyed drinking a cup of coffee, watching "The Boys" or old cowboy movies on TV and having friends and family visit at her home.

She is survived by her children:   Nelson Postell (Elizabeth) of Harleyville, Clifford Postell of Cottageville, Jake Postell of Ravenel, Berbie Lemons (Jesse) of Cottageville, Sherrie Chaffin (Tom) of Corvaills, MT, Frankie Elsey (Larry) of Walterboro, and Mary Grooms of Cottageville.  She has a daughter-in-law Trena Postell of Johns Island,  23 grandchildren,  46 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great grandchildren.  She was predeceased by a son, James Postell, and by a great- grandson, Gabriel Winchester Grooms.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM Sunday, May 19, 2019  in the chapel of Parker-Rhoden Funeral Home, 117 Paul St., Walterboro, SC.  The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
