WALTERBORO:     Mrs. Shirley O'Quinn Nettles Kinard, wife of Gerald R. Kinard, passed away peacefully Monday morning, August 25, 2025 at Magnolias of Walterboro with her loving family by her bedside.  She was 86.

Shirley was born in Walterboro September 24, 1938 a daughter of the late Albert and Mary Pellum O'Quinn.  For almost twenty years she worked in the office of Edwards Five and Dime until its closure, and then became a sales associate at Belks Department Store until her retirement.  She attended Victory Baptist Church, and was a Christian woman who was kind and loving to friends and strangers alike.  Shirley was an excellent cook and was known for her delicious red velvet cake and homemade macaroni.  She enjoyed spending time outside caring for her flowers and plants.

In addition to her husband of 56 years, she is survived by her daughter, Audrey N. Pellum, by her step-daughter, Anita K. Durden (Mike), and by her step-son, Keith Kinard (Karen).  There are five grandchildren:  Josh Kinard, Jill Cox, David and Matt Edwards, and Taylor Durden.  In addition to nine great-grandchildren, Shirley is survived by her sisters, Mary Alice Crosby (Donald), Josephine Crosby, and Dorothy Hairston.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, by her first husband Henry Nettles, by her son Victor Allen "Vic" Nettles, by her step-son Ricky Kinard, by her son-in-law Henry J. "Jake" Pellum, and by her brother Lewis O'Quinn.  The family would like to express their gratitude to Magnolias Assisting Living, and to Edisto Hospice, for the excellent care given to Shirley during her illness and death.  Their kindness will not be forgotten.

The family will receive friends Thursday morning, August 28, 2025 at 11:00, with funeral services following at noon, in the chapel of Parker-Rhoden Funeral Home, 117 Paul Street in Walterboro.  Committal services will be at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.
