Obituary

WALTERBORO :    Mr. Thomas Lee Craven, husband of Dora Mae Benton Craven, passed away Wednesday morning, March 23, 2022 at his home under the care of Amedysis Hospice, with his family beside him.  He was 90.

Thomas was born on July 6, 1931 in Colleton County a son of the late Thomas and Virginia Crosby Craven.  He was a veteran of the United States Army, where he served as a paratrooper in the 82 nd Airborne Division.  He also served in the South Carolina Army National Guard.  Thomas retired from Coastal Electric Cooperative after forty years of faithful service, and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Walterboro.

In addition to his wife of sixty-four years, Thomas is survived by his daughters Kelly C. Brant and Holly C. Hiers (Andy Anderson) of Walterboro.  There are three grandchildren:  Ginny B. Bishop (Andrew), Thomas M. Hiers, and Graci Hiers.  There are three great-grandsons:  Joseph Bentley Bishop, Gunner Thomas Bishop, and Ethan Michael Brant.  Thomas is also survived by a sister, Mary Schmitt of Chapin, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to express their heartfelt appreciation to Amedysis Hospice, and to especially Heather DeLong, for the excellent care given to Thomas during his illness and passing.

Graveside funeral services will be held privately at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens in Walterboro, and in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to either St. Jude's Children's Hospital or to the Guideons International. Parker-Rhoden Funeral Home, 117 Paul Street in Walterboro is in charge of arrangements.
