WALTERBORO:     Mr. Timothy J. "Tim" Karls, husband of Susan Madsen Karls, passed away peacefully early Monday morning, July 7, 2025 at his home in Walterboro, under hospice care, with his beloved wife by his side.  He was 69.

Tim was born in Manitowoc, Wisconsin February 4, 1956.  He married his high school sweetheart Susan in 1974 and moved to Seattle, Washington in 1977, where he began a 40 year career working for Boeing.  He started as a machinist like his best friend and father-in-law Wally.  By the 1980's he became a self-taught Numerically Controlled Programmer with his very first Timex Sinclair computer…which was the size of a handheld calculator.  He retired in 2024.

Tim loved all types of music and taught himself to play the guitar, banjo and mandolin.  He earned his license as a private pilot, and loved brewing beer with his son.  Tim spent his life learning, and was a voracious reader.  He enjoyed watching documentaries and movies, and traveling was also very important to him.  Although his life was cut short by cancer, people who were blessed to have met Tim all agreed that he made them smile, and his laugh was unforgettable!

For 51 years he was a kind, loving and devoted husband to Susan.  He is also survived by his son Justin Karls (Lani), who also pursued a career in aviation…but in the United States Army.  Tim was lovingly referred to as "Bumpa" by his beloved granddaughters Isabelle, Sydney and Emma.  He leaves behind his mother, Kathryn Wasmer Karls, and his siblings Jeff (Wanda), Mark and Steve Karls, and Pam K. Ory (Don).  He is also survived by his sisters-in-law Debbie Seibel, Diane Alseth (Dave) and LouAnn Seibel (Bob), as well as a host of extended family to include aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Memorial services will be held Saturday afternoon, July 19, 2025 at 3:00 in the chapel of Parker-Rhoden Funeral Home.  Friends and family are invited to celebrate his life following the service from 5:00 until 7:00 at his home, located at 707 Carn Street in Walterboro.  In lieu of flowers, Susan requests that memorials be made in his honor to one's local animal shelter, or to simply plant a tree in memory of Tim.  Parker-Rhoden Funeral Home, 117 Paul Street in Walterboro is in charge of arrangements.
