On Thursday December 5th, 2024, Thomas Davis Bryce, 71, passed away peacefully at his residence
after a lengthy illness. He was born on January 13, 1953, in La Jolla, California, to parents Elizabeth
Susan (née Davis) and Thomas Alan Bryce.
Tom earned a Bachelor of Arts in Biology from the University of Texas at Austin and a Master of
Science in Fisheries and Allied Aquacultures from Auburn University. Upon completion of his
undergraduate degree and before embarking on his Naval service, he married Lessie Cone of
Charleston, South Carolina.
He was a proud United States Navy veteran who served as an Engineering Officer aboard the USS
Julius A. Furer (FFG-6). He was a strong leader who served with integrity and courage, demonstrating an unwavering commitment to his country. Tom was a dedicated patriot.
To all who have known Tom, he was kind and generous and always quick to lend a helping hand. He
loved his family and enjoyed chatting with friends over coffee. He was an avid dog lover and a
fervent supporter of his beloved University of Texas Longhorns football team. His overarching love
and concern for young people led him to lead numerous collegiate Bible studies and participate in
many mission trips over the years.
As an environmental scientist, Tom served as the Chief Fisheries Biologist at Fort Stewart, Georgia,
until his retirement in 2003. He enjoyed the outdoors and was passionate about involving young
people in outdoor educational programs which he helped to create on several school campuses.
He also endeared young people to the outdoors through his love for fishing and encouraged many
to participate in fishing tournaments.
Above all, Tom's faith and trust in God, which guided him through many battles, sustained him to
the very end. In his letter to Timothy, Paul declares, "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the
race, I have kept the faith" (II Timothy 4:7). This is a fitting summary of his journey.
He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Lessie (née Cone) Bryce; sister, Elizabeth Bryce Beard
(Erik); brother-in-law, Dr. David L. Cone (Sharon); two nephews, Brian Erik Beard (Jess) and Josh
Michael Beard (Maria); two nieces, Dr. Jordan Lindsie Cone (Matthew) and Lauren Lessie Anne
Cone; two great-nephews and three great-nieces.
Tom was predeceased by his parents, Captain Thomas Alan and Elizabeth Davis Bryce.
A funeral service and celebration of life will be held Thursday, December 12th, at Parker-Rhoden Funeral Home, 117 Paul
