WALTERBORO:    Victor Allen Nettles, affectionately known throughout the Lowcountry and state of South Carolina as "Vic", passed away at his home in Forest Hills Friday, November 1, 2024.  He was 66.

Vic was born October 4, 1958 in Walterboro, a son of Shirley O'Quinn Nettles and the late Henry K. Nettles.  At an early age he was full of mischief, and countless stories have been told of his pranks and deeds as a child.  His love of practical jokes extended throughout his teenage years and into adulthood. The telephone was one of his favorite tools, and he was known to casually pick up a ringing phone while shopping in Walmart…regardless of the department…and offer pointless advice to the unsuspecting caller. On his home or cell phone, telemarketers would be strung along forever until the call ended with Vic blaring an air-horn into the receiver!

Vic loved South Carolina, Colleton County, and Walterboro.  He was extremely active in the community and was a member of the Jaycees, was a past chairman of the Lowcountry Council of Governments (LCOG), and was a member of Bethel Presbyterian Church.

Vic was heavily involved in politics and counted many politicians as his friends.  He helped with the campaigns of Gov. David Beasley, Lt. Gov Andre Bauer, and Congresswoman Nancy Mace.  He was extremely proud to have served as the chairman of the Colleton County Coalition to elect Donald Trump as President in 2016, and ardently supported him in his latest victory for his second term as Commander in Chief.  He was as Republican as a man could be!

Vic was a hard worker throughout his life…and was an entrepreneur who was always hustling.  For many years he was a well-known car salesman at Rizer Chevrolet, and was later a sales associate for Thomas Berry at Berry Building Supply.  He worked for Global Environmental before eventually venturing out on his own with Palmetto Environmental…the company he owned and operated for over twenty years.  It was painfully obvious to his family and friends whenever he had a bad week and didn't meet his self imposed quota!

Vic was an avid fan of all things Clemson…especially tiger football.  He was a "parrothead" and could be heard playing Jimmy Buffett…as well as the Marshall Tucker Band…all the time.  He was kindhearted and genuine and his smile and laugh were infectious.  His adventures and exploits will live on through his family and friends, and he will truly be missed.

In addition to his mother, Shirley O'Quinn Nettles Kinard, and his step-father Gerald R. Kinard, he is survived by his sister, Audrey Pellum (Jake), his step-sister Anita Durden (Mike), and his step-brother Keith Kinard (Karen).  He leaves behind his beloved niece Jillian Cox (John) and great niece and great-nephew Jenna and Jacob, as well as a host of extended family.  In addition to his father, Vic was preceded in death by his step-brother Ricky Kinard.

Vic was blessed to have dear friends that were a part of his life since he was a child.  Greg Pryor, Robbie Hogan, and Thurston Hiers will cherish their friendship here on Earth until they meet again one day in Heaven.  However…based on experiences…it is doubtful St. Peter will let the four of them congregate on the streets of gold together!  Too much could go wrong!

Funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon, November 10, 2024 at 2:00 in the chapel of Parker-Rhoden Funeral Home, with burial following in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.  The family will receive friends during a time of visitation beginning at 1:00.  Parker-Rhoden Funeral Home, 117 Paul Street in Walterboro is in charge of arrangements.
