Obituary

RUFFIN: Mrs. Virginia McAlhany Preacher, 90, Of 2833 Red Root Road, Ruffin, SC, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, October 10, 2017. She died peacefully at Pruitt Health Care.

Born on December 19, 1926 in Branchville, SC, Virginia was the daughter of the late Joseph McAlhany and the late Vickie Walters McAlhany of Branchville, SC. In the year 1947, Virginia met and married James L. Preacher, the love of her life for 63 years. She was a dedicated mother and loving wife and partner to James on their farm near Ruffin, (Hudson Mill) South Carolina. Until her illness, Virginia was a faithful member and attendee of Bethel United Methodist Church, Ruffin, SC. She will be remembered as a friendly, hard working, honest and caring mother, wife and friend.

Virginia is survived by: daughter, Athelda Dunn (Bobby) and a son, James "Jimmy" Preacher (Sheryl) all of Ruffin. There are four grandchildren: Cristy Beckett Duffie (Bert) of Walterboro, Chad Beckett (Heather) of Charleston, Jeffery Preacher of Mt. Pleasant and Troy Preacher (Terri), of Seven Lakes, NC. Virginia was blessed with four great-grandchildren, Holden and Caroline Duffie of Walterboro and Isabella and Elijah Preacher of Seven Lakes, NC. Virginia's siblings include Molly M. Holman (William-late) and Richard McAlhany (Margaret) all of Branchville, SC; Nancy M. Harbeson (David) of Akron, Ohio; and Beverly M. Berry (Charles) of Branchville, SC. Preceded siblings include Catherine M. Connelly (Lloyd) of Reevesville, SC; J. O. McAlhany (Yvonne) of Reevesville, SC and Norman McAlhany (Shirley-late) of Orangeburg, SC. She is also survived by over 30 nieces and nephews.

Family and friends of Virginia are invited to attend her funeral services Thursday, October 12, 2017 at 11:00 AM at Bethel United Methodist Church, 16147 Lowcountry Highway, Ruffin, SC. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will begin at 10:00 o'clock prior to the services.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made either to Bethel United Methodist Church or to Friends of the Colleton County Animal Shelter, 33 Poor Farm Road, Walterboro, SC 29488.
